Sustainable reconfigurable manufacturing system design using adapted multi-objective evolutionary-based approaches

Nowadays, manufacturing systems should be cost-effective and environmentally harmless to cope with various challenges in today’s competitive markets. This paper aims solve an environmental-oriented multi-objective reconfigurable system design (i.e., sustainable machines tools selection) the case of a single-unit process plan generation. A non-linear integer program (NL-MOIP) is presented first, where four objectives are minimized respectively, total production cost, time, amount greenhouse gases emitted by machines, hazardous liquid wastes. Second, problem, we propose adapted versions evolutionary approaches, namely two well-known non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm (NSGA-II NSGA-III), weighted algorithms (WGA), random (RWGA). To show efficiency several instances problem experimented, obtained results analyzed using three metrics respectively hypervolume, spacing metric, cardinality mixed Pareto fronts. Moreover, influences probabilities operators (crossover mutation) on convergence NSGA-III analyzed. Finally, TOPSIS method used help decision-maker ranking select best plans.
